Issues

Rocklin has been consistently voted one of the best places to live, both in the country and in the state. This is not by accident, it is the product of citizen leaders and community volunteers, hardworking city employees, our dedicated and long-standing business community and, of course, our police and fire departments. I understand the issues facing Rocklin because I have become intimately familiar with the institutions that solve the city's problems day after day. My experience has come from years volunteering and donating my time to the following:

  • Rocklin Chamber of Commerce - Vice Chair
  • Rocklin Planning Commissioner
  • Rocklin Police Activities League - Founding Board Member and Secretary
  • Placer County Bar Association - Board Member
  • South Placer Rotary Member and Volunteer

We need leaders that know the issues and can approach solutions with the correct temperament. Now is the time for Rocklin leaders that can dive into the issues with clarity of thought, dedication to the community's interest above their own, and be willing to put in the time and effort towards problem-solving.

Responsible and Managed Growth

Rocklin is going through a considerable amount of growth. With housing mandates from the state, and multiple projects that have been in development for years / decades, we need someone that understands the issues and will tackle the problems with intelligence and diligence. I will use my experience on the Rocklin Planning Commission, as well as my knowledge of real estate and land use law, to ensure that Rocklin is getting the most out of our development agreements and managing our growth to maintain the feel and quality of life that Rocklin residents expect and deserve.

Over the past two years we have:

  • Begun to Build Downtown Rocklin. We entered into a Letter of Intent with a development group that previously built the highly successful "Oxbow Market" that will bring a beautiful open market similar to The Fountains in Roseville to the area in Rocklin near Quarry Park Adventures. We are currently tackling environmental remediation from past mining, and we are pressing forward with progress on the project weekly.

Public Safety

Rocklin was voted a top-20 safest place to live in California by the California Chamber of Commerce. As a founding board member of the Police Activities League, I can tell you first-hand how hard our first responders work for our residents. Consistent with my commitment and involvement with Rocklin law enforcement, I will make sure our first responders have what they need to continue to do the work that has earned us such great accolades and low crime rates.

It is important to note the following achievements over the past two years:

  • We have decreased response times throughout the City because we have added a substation in the western area of Rocklin, which has shortened driving trips and created efficiencies in report generation and getting our officers back on the street.
  • We responded to business complaints surrounding Granite Oaks and Rocklin High students creating problems for businesses. The Rocklin Police Department, RUSD, and local businesses came together to manage a communication system that allowed RPD to respond quickly and effectively, and we created a progressive discipline system that has produced a 90% decrease in theft and complaints in that area. My involvement started with complaints I saw online, and I reached out to the appropriate stakeholders and we created the solution above.
  • We are building our fourth fire station, which will decrease and thus provide the appropriate response times for Eastern Rocklin.

My goals for the following four years include:

  • Providing our public safety employees with benefits they deserve so that we can recruit and retain the best.
  • Creating a new detective position within the Rocklin Police Department that will investigate drug distribution in the area with an emphasis on financial and technological aspects of investigations.
  • Bringing to completion the East Rocklin Fire Station.
  • Keeping Rocklin one of the safest cities in California; because that is saying something.

Recreation, Family, and Quality of Life

Few people know that in Rocklin a park is within half a mile of nearly every door in the city. We have multiple opportunities to increase usable open space and youth and family activities. Rocklin families like my own have enjoyed our trails and parks, which were created and preserved by the tireless work of councilmembers, city employees, and countless volunteers. As a member of the South Placer Rotary Club, I have joined Rocklin residents in cleaning our streams and installing benches at Sunset-Whitney. The quality of life in Rocklin is unparalleled, and I will be relentless in ensuring our quality of life is maintained. I will also be vigilant in scrutinizing developments within the county that challenge our quality of life.
